National Service Scheme
Established in the year 1971 by Professor A.K. Kakkar, NSS units of DAV College aims at developing students’ personality through community service. The objective is to instill the idea of social welfare in students, and to provide service to society without bias. NSS volunteers work to ensure that everyone who is needy gets help to enhance their standard of living and lead a life of dignity.
NSS Activities

Induction cum orientation session on 24th September, 2020. 400 volunteers were inducted into the NSS Family of DAV College. Vivek, BA III Political Science Hons was chosen as the student coordinator of NSS Units. Shreya (BSc Med III) and Sakshi Aggarwal (B.Com III), Arushi Bhatia (BBA III) and Paras Verma (BBA III), Prakriti (BA III) and Anirudh Dhondiyal (B.Com III) and Pragya Thakur (BA III Psychology Hons.) and Raja Babu (BSc Non Med III) were selected as the Team Leaders of Unit 1, Unit 2, Unit 3 and Unit 4 of NSS DAVC respectively.

NSS Day Celebrations on 24th September, 2020. Sh. Bikram Rana, State Liaison Officer, State NSS Cell, Chandigarh was the chief guest of the event.

Session on making homemade masks and Covid-19 awareness session by Dr. Suman Kapur and Dr. Sandeep Singh on 28th September, 2020

Karuna week was celebrated from 27th September 2020 to 2nd October 2020 to commemorate the 151st birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi. Around 400 NSS volunteers took part in this Kaurna week by distributing handmade masks, sanitizers, soaps and ORS packets in their respective localities

Mask distribution and Covid 19 Awareness drive in Dhanas, NSS DAV adopted village on 2nd October 2020. 400 masks were distributed among the citizens.

NSS Volunteers participated in first-of-its-kind national initiative called the India Plog Run, organised by Government of India.

Pledge against COVID-19 on 8th October, 2020. Volunteers resolved to take all the necessary precautions that can prevent the spread of this deadly virus, to follow and encourage others in adopting COVID appropriate behaviours.

Mask Distribution and Covid Awareness Drives in Dhanas, Dhakoli and Slum Areas in Sector-25 Chandigarh on 27th October, 2020. Around 1000 surgical and 100 cloth masks were distributed by the volunteers

The college hosted State Level NSS Pre - Republic Day selections following the COVID SOP protocol on 5th November, 2020. The Chief selectors were, Smt. Harinder Kaur, Regional Director, NSS UT Chandigarh, Sh. Bikram Rana, State Liaison Officer, State NSS Cell and Sh. Rajkumar, Youth Officer.

NSS DAVC in association with Institute of the Blinds, Sec-26, Chandigarh celebrated Green Diwali from 9-11 November, 2020. The volunteers sold the candles which were prepared by the blind students and the collected funds were sent to the Institute of the Blinds.

To support the hands who make diyas and bring happiness in people’s lives and promote vocal for local, NSS volunteers bought diyas from local artisans and street vendors in Diwali under ASHA KA DEEP Initiative and motivated their families and friends to do the same.

Intra-college quiz competition on Dadra and Nagar Haveli on 29th January, 2021

7 Days NSS Special Camp from 20-26 March 2021. Meditation session, exercise session, self defense classes, road safety workshop, lecture on water conservation, workshop on fire safety, sapling plantation drive, lecture on Gandhi Ji’s Contribution to India’s independence, webinar on Drug Abuse and Drug De-addiction, Mask distribution drive, etc were conducted in the camp.

Webinar on the theme ‘Ecosystem Restoration’ on 5th June, 2021 to mark World Environment Day

The NSS units started Project Udaan, an initiative to teach children from the underprivileged/weaker sections of the society with an aim to spread the roots of education in every household. Under this Project, following all the safety norms and precautions regarding Covid, 30+ children have being taught in both offline and online mediums on regular basis.

Awareness was spread regarding COVID from the social media platforms of NSS DAVC. Volunteers made a 'Covid Guide' wherein all verified information regarding Covid-19 was shared and various myths were busted.

The NSS volunteers worked day and night amplifying the messages regarding requirements hospital beds, medicines, oxygen cylinders and verified resources. They also raised funds for some financially distressed families who could not bear the expense of treatment.

NSS DAVC ran a 24 x 7 blood helpline which benefitted many people.

Many NSS volunteers also volunteered at the vaccination centers. They took up duties of registration, discipline, etc

Volunteers participated in #youngwarrior campaign which is an initiative by UNICEF in collaboration with NSS and Yuwah to take action against Covid-19 and spread awareness.
NSS Achievers:
Sagar Roy, BA II participated in North Zone Regional Level One Day NSS Pre-Republic Day Parade Camp at Chitkara University, Rajpura on 14th December, 2020.
Pragya Thakur, BA III Psychology Hons and Raja Babu, BSc Non-Med III participated in National Integration Camp held at Mahatma Jyotiba Phule Rohilhand University, Bareilly, Uttar Pradesh from 10-16th March, 2021.
Throughout the session, NSS Units of DAV College worked tirelessly towards bringing a positive change in the society and accomplished its motto of Not Me But You.
