Physics Association

The Physics Association, DAV College has been keenly indulged in various scientific and cultural events throughout the academic year, every year. On 15th October 2018, Gravitino 2018 was organized which started the chain of annual fest of the Association. In 2018, Many students showed amazing interest in the same and participated in various competitions such as Scientific Rangoli, Poster Making and JAM (Just a minute). The ‘fest’ was organized at various locations like the physics labs, main auditorium and the conference room. A wave of enthusiasm was observed with immense scientific vibes which made Gravitino 2018 a huge success.
The Association organized GRAVITINO 2019 based on the theme “The Recent Advancements in Neo-Sciences”, which was held on 8th Feb, 2019. It consisted of expert lecture on Nanotechnology. Dr. Keya Dharamvir from Association of Physics, Panjab University was the expert speaker on the occasion. The Association also organized a Physics workshop by Prof. M.S. Marwaha. Around 200 students took part in both lecture and the workshop. The venues for these events were the conference hall and physics lab 224 respectively. Overall students appreciated the fact that they could relate the theory they read with experiments they perform which were completely related to their daily life activities. The Gravitino 2019 was concluded with amazing enthusiasm about science and like every year, the ‘fest’ was not limited to Physics only. Students and teachers enrolled in different Associations and courses join together to cherish the logical vibe. 
The Association students took part in various events such as on the spot poster making competition and a lecture on ‘Green Energy’ held at “Hindu Girls College, Jagadhari” on 20th Feb, 2019. 15 Students took part in this event and made it a day to remember. Just after a week of these events the students of our Association took part in various events at “Maharaja Agrasen University, Baddi” on National Science Day i.e. 28th Feb, 2019. Students took part in Poster Making, Rangoli Making and quiz competitions and won gold, silver and bronze medals for the same. In September 2019, the Association organized a scientific movie screening. Oscar Winning movie ‘Interstellar’, directed by Christopher Nolan and starring Matthew McConaughey was presented to the students and the teachers to help them better understand the concept of General Relativity. Around 200 students took part in this event which made it a remarkable event to reminisce.
The Association organized a one day trip to Pushpa Gujaral Science city, Kapurthala on 15th September, 2019. The students keenly enjoyed various activities which included the dome movie screening (Everest), pre historic theme park, a presentation/movie on Green Energy. The students and the teachers keenly enjoyed some fun science activities such as 3D movie, laser show and variety of museums based on optics, energy and space exploration. They were thrilled to witness various simulations such as earthquake and roller coaster ride. The students and the teachers were overjoyed by the experience of the trip.
On 5th November, 2019 the students of B.Sc. 1st year visited the Government Science Museum, Sector 10, Chandigarh. The students filled their minds with amazing information about pre-historic to today’s world evolution. The students also witnessed various tools every age of human race used. Overall it was a mixture of information and joy.
Not limited to competitions and expert lectures, the Association is also active in organizing educational trips to famous historical cities and sites. The Association organized a 3 days trip to the cities of Jaipur, Pushkar and Ajmer on 7th to 11th February, 2020. Around 40 students enrolled themselves for the same. The trip was a huge success.
On 24th February 2020, ‘GRAVITINO 2020’ was started with preliminary quiz rounds. ‘GRAVITINO 2020’ showed the enthusiasm and zeal of students towards various aspects of scientific culture. Not limited to only the physics Association students, GRAVITINO 2020 attracted students from other Associations, students from other colleges and also teachers from other Associations to take part in it. Other than the quiz competition, students took part in various other activities like poster making competition, Rangoli making competition, Model making competition, Treasure hunting, flash mob on from 24th to 27th February at various locations like main auditorium, mini auditorium, physics lab and Shaurya Bhawan. Expert lecture was organized by the Association on 26th February at the mini auditorium with enlightening words of Prof. J S Bagla from IISER, Mohali. The auditorium was full of students and teachers and it was a sight to see. After the lecture, a science workshop was organized by the Association with Mrs. Keya Dharamvir from Panjab University as the key speaker. Around 80 students took part in the workshop held at physics lab 224. It was an interactive workshop with students doing interesting experiments based on concepts of Physics making it a memorable workshop. On 27th February, 2020 the day started with inter college quiz competition followed by expert lecture by Mrs. Manjeet Kaur from the Association of Physics, Panjab University at the mini auditorium. Again, around 200 students took part in the lecture from various classes and learned a lot of things about high energy physics and its various aspects. GRAVITINO 2020 was concluded with movie screening. Oscar winning movie ‘The Imitation Game’ directed by Mortem Tyldum and staring Benedict Cumberbatch was screened at the mini auditorium. Overall Gravitino 2020 was a main attraction of the 2019-2020 academic year and it gave immense enthusiasm for future events which is promised by the Association.

Botanical Association

Botanical Association functions under the agesis of Botany Department. The association organises the student's related activities to enhance their knowledge about plants. Association is managed by the faculty of Botany Department (Dr. Ranju Gulati, Dr. Sonali Guleria, and Mr Uday Bhan Singh) along with student volunteers.

The Psychology Association

PSYCH is the name of the Psychology Association of the Department of Psychology, Sector 10 Chandigarh.

The students of the department have been involved in organizing numerous functions since the beginning of the department.Formally the group was named Psych in 2018. The group consists of the teachers of the department and all the students who are interested in the field of Psychology. It aims at connecting all the students so that they can gain from each other, for this purpose various events and competitions are organized time to time.
The events organized by PSYCH included Movie Screenings, PPT competitions, Poster Making competitions and invited lectures and seminars. Indeed, even in the COVID Scenario, Department of Psychology coordinated different courses through online mode, which included workshops for Techniques to Foster Positive Mental Health Amidst Covid 19 Crisis, Counseling: Facts, Myths. Beginning to end of Counseling, Internships Discussions and so on.
This group gives a chance to students to come up with their ideas and skills. This group has been effective in making an impact and making the experience of learning and applying psychology more enjoyable for students since it has started, with collective efforts of both teachers and students.

Political Science Association

Political Science Association (PSA) is the official student society of the Department of Political Science, D.A.V. College, Chandigarh. Every year, a student panel is elected who under the guidance of the department teachers organise a vast array of educational events such as debates, discussions, seminars, webinars, quizzes, visits to Vidhan Sabha, Youth Parliaments, etc. The association and the department also bring out an annual magazine “Poll-i-tico”.

Activities in 2020-21
The Political Science Association organised a series of event in 2020-21 under the able guidance of Dr. Ghanshyam Dev, HOD, Dr. Sutapa Saryal and Dr. Kanwalpreet Kaur. 21 students from different courses and streams were chosen to be a part of the student panel of Political Science Association. Vivek, BA 3 Political Science Honours was selected as the President of PSA for 2020-21.
The association organized an Intra-College Online Case Study Based PPT Presentation Competition on the topic How Indian Elections Are Won on 24th November, 2021.
On 18th December 2020, a Webinar on 'Understanding Farm Acts 2020' was held through Google Meet. The keynote speaker of the online session symposium was Prof. Devinder Sharma, a distinguished food and trade policy analyst.
An online National Level Inter-College Case Study Based PPT Presentation Competition on the topic 'How Indian Elections Are Won' was organised on 19th December, 2021. Students from 17 colleges from all across the country participated, including colleges from Tamil Nadu, Dehradun, Punjab, and Delhi.
The association conducted an online Intra-College Live Quiz Competition on the topic "Indian Government and Politics" on 20th January, 2021.
An interactive Webinar on 'How to Conduct Research and Write a Research Paper' was held on 5th April, 2021. Dr. Jayanti Dutta, Deputy Director, HRD Centre, Panjab University, Chandigarh was the resource person of the session which was attended by more than 500 students, research scholars and teachers.
On 30th April, 2021, an inter-college quiz competition on India’s Relations with its Neighbouring countries since independence was organised in which 200 students participated.
The highlight of the tenure was two days All India Stakeholders Meet on the agenda-Discussion on Farm Acts 2020 and ongoing Farmer Protest held on 21-22 May, 2021. 53 students from 20 educational institutions participated in the event. A training session for the delegates was organised on 18 May 2021.
The association started an online Initiative- “E-Wall Magazine” on its social media platforms. Under it, well researched infographics on CMs of different states of India and Eminent Personalities that graced our society and a post titled “Weekly News” were shared every week.
The tenure concluded with the publication of the first edition of Department of Political Science’s Magazine ‘Poll-i-tico’.

History Association

History Association is one of the most vibrant and active association of teachers and students who are engaged to study history  in the College. The association organises regular seminars, quizzes on historical period and themes, plays and painting competitions to inculcate interest of students in the subject. The relevance of historical understanding of various issues in past and contemporary society are explored by undergraduate students in academic and extracurricular activities. The History Association is an interactive platform of teachers and students to form mutual understanding. The teachers in the association also become mentors of  students. Finally, the association is a platform which provide the intellectual framework necessary to address the social problems and cultural conflicts in this ‘post-truth’ era.

Hindi Sanskrit Sahitya Parishad

Hindi Sahitya Parishad is an association of students under the patronage and guidance of the College and Hindi Department. It is a creative and cultural activity group of students with a primary motive to develop awareness and understanding of the vast literary sphere. It also helps students in nurturing writing, reading and presentation skills. Parishad organises various activities for students like essay, poetry and short story writing as well as presentation. It also organises events like Talks, Panel Discussions and lectures by the Guest Speakers and Professors from the various renowned Universities to provide wider knowledge, awareness and approach to the students. Students Parishad works in tandem to enable students to develop organisational and persuasive skills, to become better listeners and act as leaders in various ways. Through discussions in Parishad, students become aware of social, political and lingual issues within and outside the literary sphere. Hindi Sahitya Parishad consists of Teaching Department and student elected body of various posts. It elects President, Vice President, Secretary and Joint Secretary for every academic session.
